Oversize Load Permit Is Required:
Width: Over 8' 6"
Height: Over 13' 6"
Length: Semi-trailer over 53' 0"
Weight: Over 80,000 lbs. GVW (20,000 lbs. single axle or 34,000 lbs. tandem axle)

Oversize Load Times Of Movement:
Sunrise to sunset for vehicles under 14′ wide, 75′ long, 10′ overhang,or 14′ high (7 days a week)
Interstate or APD routes only with dimensions less than 14′ wide, 95′ long, 15′ overhang or 14′ 6″ high may travel sunrise-sunset, 7 days a week
Oversize vehicles exceeding these dimensions up to and including 16′ wide may travel from sunrise-sunset, M-F
Oversize vehicles exceeding 16′ wide may only travel on Sunday mornings
Overweight vehicles up to & including 110, 000 lbs. may travel 24/7 (may run Saturday & Sunday if requested when permit is ordered)
Travel restricted on New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day

West Virginia Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required:
2 Lane Highways:
Over 10′ 6″ to 12′ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 12′ to 14′ wide requires 2 pilot cars
Over 14′ to 15′ wide requires 2 pilot cars
Over 15′ to 16′ wide requires 3 pilot cars
Over 16′ as required by permit-Sunday (must be accompanied by WVDOT)
Over 75′ to 95′ long requires 1 pilot car
Over 95′ to 100′ long requires 2 pilot cars
Over 10′ overhang requires 1 pilot car
Over 15′ high requires 1 pilot car with high pole (in addition to other escorts)
4 or More Lane Highways:
Over 12′ to 14′ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 14′ to 15′ wide requires 2 pilot cars
Over 15′ to 16′ wide requires 3 pilot cars
Over 16′ wide same as 2 lane except not allowed on Parkway
Over 95′ to 100′ long requires 1 pilot car
Over 100′ long requires 2 pilot cars
Over 10′ overhang requires 1 pilot car
Over 15′ high requires 1 pilot car with high pole in addition to other escorts (Parkway, I-77/64 & Yeager Bridge has a max height of 15′ 10″

West Virginia Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments:
Vehicle size not specified in regulations
"OVERSIZE LOAD" sign (5′ x 12″) with black letters (10″ high and 1½″ wide brush stroke) visible from the front & rear, mounted on the bumper or roof of vehicle
Rotating/strobe amber plastic, acrylic or glass covered flashing light, visible from 500′ at 360 degrees
Red or safety orange flags (18″ square) mounted at a 40 - 70 degree angle on vehicle's roof racks or on all four corners of the vehicle
Signs/placards (8″ x 12″ min) showing the company name, owner or driver's name & phone number in a conspicuous place on both sides of vehicle
CB or two way radio
Standard 18″ "STOP/SLOW" paddle sign with 6″ letters
Three reflective triangles or 18″ traffic cones
Two 5 lb. A,B,C type fire extinguishers
Safety orange vest/shirt/jacket
Red hand flag (18″ min) First aid supplies as prescribed in WAC 29-800-15020
Flashlight with red nose cone
Height pole for use on required loads
