Ohio Oversize Load / Pilot Car Requirements
Limitations/Provisions on the use of a Special Hauling Permit

Oversize Load Permit Is Required:
Width: Over 8' 6"
Height: Over 13' 6"
Length: Semi-trailer over 53' 0"
Weight: Over 80,000 lbs. GVW (20,000 lbs. single axle or 34,000 lbs. tandem axle)

Oversize Load Times Of Movement:
1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset
Travel permitted 24/7 for overweight loads (dimensions must be legal)
Loads up to 12′ wide may run daylight hours, 7 days a week
Loads over 12′ wide are permitted until 3pm on Saturday & Sunday
Travel prohibited on New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day
Permit office is closed for the above holidays plus Martin Luther King Day, Washington's Birthday, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day & the day after Thanksgiving
Travel prohibited for vehicles/loads exceeding 12′ wide within a 25 mile radius of Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus & within the corporate limits of Akron, Canton, Dayton, Lima, Toledo and Youngstown from 6:30am - 9am & 4:30pm - 6pm

Ohio Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required:
Over 90′ long requires 1 pilot car
Over 13′ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 14′ 6″ wide requires 2 pilot cars
Over 14′ 6″ high requires 1 pilot car with height pole
Over 14′ 10″ high requires 2 pilot cars
More than 0ne of the above conditions requires 2 pilot cars

Ohio Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments:
No vehicle requirements stipulated
"OVERSIZE LOAD" sign (5′ X 12″) with black letters (8″ high) on yellow background
Roof mounted amber flashing or rotating light(s)
Flags not stipulated in regulations
CB or two way radio
Height Pole (when required)

Ohio Pilot Car Operator Requirements:
Provision sheet must be stapled to the permit
Superloads require police escort and may require a bridge person depending on the weight of the load
