Oversize Load Permit Is Required:
Width: Over 8' 6"
Height: Over 14' 0"
Length: Semi-trailer over 48' 0"
Weight: Over 86,400 lbs. GVW (21,600 lbs. single axle or 34,320 lbs. tandem axle)

Oversize Load Times Of Movement:
Sunrise to sunset (Monday - Saturday) No Sunday travel
Travel prohibited on New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day
When any holiday falls on or is observed on a day other than Monday or Saturday, travel restrictions shall run from sunset of the day preceding such holiday to sunrise of the day following such holiday. When the holiday falls on Monday, travel is prohibited after sunset of the preceding Saturday until sunrise on the following Tuesday. When the holiday falls on a Saturday, travel is prohibited after sunset of the preceding Friday until sunrise on the following Monday

New Mexico Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required:
Over 8′ 6″ wide (if deemed a hazard)requires 1 pilot car
Over 14′ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 20′ wide (for 5 or more miles) requires 1 police escort & flagman
Over 90′ up to 110′ long requires 1 pilot car
Over 110′ long requires 2 pilot cars
16′ up to 18′ high requires 1 pilot car with height pole + extra man or pilot car to check for overhead clearance
18′ high & over requires 2 pilot cars, 1 with height pole + clearance from utilities, municipal & local authorities

New Mexico Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments:
Minimum 100″ wheelbase, must not exceed 1 1/2 ton capacity
Minimum insurance in the amount of 25/50/10 (proof must be carried in vehicle)
Inspection required by DOT on an annual basis (show certification at all NMPOE) "OVERSIZE LOAD" sign (min. 5′ X 12″) with black letters (10″ X 1″) on yellow background mounted on front and rear or top of vehicle
Two rotating, flashing or strobe amber lights on top of the vehicle at vehicle width or at width not to exceed 8′ with sufficient intensity to be visible at a minimum distance of 1,000′ in normal sunlight
Two red or fluorescent orange flags (minimum 12″ on any side) mounted on the front and/or rear or on top of the vehicle
CB or two way radio
Rear view mirrors on left/right side of vehicle
One fire extinguisher (2 1/2 lb. carbon dioxide, dry chemical or other type equal too or greater than the extinguishing capacities)
ID sign or placard displaying the name, address and State Corporation Commission or public regulation commission authority number on both sides of the vehicle (information may be displayed using removable magnetic signs
Three red flares/reflectors
