Oversize Load Permit Is Required:
Width: Over 8' 6"
Height: Over 14' 0"
Length: Semi-trailer over 53' 0"
Weight: Over 80,000 lbs. GVW (20,000 lbs. single axle or 34,000 lbs. tandem axle)

Oversize Load Times Of Movement:
Continuous travel allowed for loads not over 10′ wide (9′ 6″ wide for baled hay & hay racks), 14′ 6″ high, 75′ long with overhang, 110′ long with no overhang on non interstate. Non reducible 10′ wide or less may travel on interstate
Daylight travel only, 7 days a week, for loads not exceeding 18′ wide, 18′ high, 120′ long with overhang or 110′ without overhang on non interstate
Daylight travel Monday through Friday only for loads that exceed 18′ wide, 120′ long and 18′ high (exceptions are implements of husbandry)
Travel prohibited on New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day (if holiday falls on weekend or Friday, travel prohibited Friday through Sunday. If holiday falls on Monday, travel prohibited Saturday through Monday. If holiday falls on Thursday, travel prohibited for that day only)

Montana Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required:
On 2 lane or multi-lane, non-interstate:
Over 10′ wide (not equipped with lights & signs) requires 2 pilot cars
Over 12′ 6″ to 16′ 6″ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 16′ wide requires 2 pilot cars
Over 110′ long requires 1 pilot car
Over 17′ high with route survey requires 1 pilot car with height pole
On interstate:
Over 16′ 6″ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 120′ long requires 1 pilot car
No more than 5 OS/OW loads requiring escorts may convoy if width not over 14′ (15′ with projections and not over 120′ long)
No more than 5 OS/OW loads may convoy if length of any unit is greater than 110′ long on interstate highways

Montana Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments:
Passenger car or 2 axle truck a minimum of 60″ wide and not exceeding 2 ton GVW
"OVERSIZE LOAD" sign 5′ X 1′ with 8″ high dark letters on a light background
Minimum of 1 strobe or 2 amber 5″ flashing lights or 1 rotating beacon light mounted on roof
No flags stipulated in regulations
CB or two way radio
