Missouri Oversize Load / Pilot Car Requirements
OVERSIZE/OVERWEIGHT PERMIT REGULATIONS

Oversize Load Permit Is Required:
Width: Over 8' 6"
Height: Over 13' 6"
Length: Semi-trailer over 53' 0"
Weight: Over 80,000 lbs. GVW (22,000 lbs. single axle or 36,000 lbs. tandem axle)

Oversize Load Times Of Movement:
1/2 hour before sunrise until 1/2 hour after sunset (except in metropolitan and tourist areas)
Travel permitted all day Saturday, no Sunday travel
Travel prohibited on New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day (no travel from noon on days preceding holiday until 1/2 hour before sunrise on the day following the holiday)

Find a Pilot Car Provider in Missouri
Missouri Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required:
On 2 lane & undivided highways:
12′ 4″ to 14′ wide requires 1 pilot car on 2 lane (off designated highways requires 2 pilot cars)
14′ to 16′ wide requires 2 pilot cars
Over 90′ long for a combo unit on all highways (except divided) requires 1 pilot car
Over 15′ 6″ high with route survey requires 1 pilot car with height pole
On interstate & divided multi-lane highways:
12′ 4″ to 16′ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 15′ 6″ high with route survey requires 1 pilot car with height pole
Superloads (exceeding 16′ wide, 16′ high, 150′ long and/or 160,000 lbs. GVW):
if over 17′ 5″ high must have written approval from the appropriate utility company showing approval to disturb lines across route (no movement from 6:30am - 9am & 3:30pm - 6pm require a minimum of 1 State Patrol and pilot car
State Highway Patrol:
16′ wide or greater on 2 lane highway requires 1 State Patrol and 2 pilot cars
Load exceeds 16′ wide on any highway other than interstate, 18′ wide on interstate, 150′ overall length require 1 State Patrol and 3 pilot cars

Missouri Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments:
A properly licensed automobile, pickup truck, utility vehicle, station wagon or equivalent vehicle covered by at least the minimum amount of insurance required by law
"OVERSIZE LOAD" sign minimum size of 5′ X 1′ with minimum 8″ high black letters on a yellow background and visible for at least 300′. Sign shall be displayed on the front and/or the rear of the escort vehicle, whichever is applicable
Flashing or revolving amber lights
At least two red/orange fluorescent flags mounted on a staff at the 2 front or rear extremities of the escort vehicle whichever is applicable
CB or two way radio
A height pole (when applicable)

Missouri Pilot Car Operator Requirements:
Minimum of 18 years of age with current drivers license
Your provision sheet must be stapled to your permit (check curfew hours first)
