Oversize Load Permit Is Required: Width: Over 8' 0" Height: Over 13' 6" Length: Semi-trailer over 53' 0" (with restrictions - Visit Oversize Permit Manual) Weight: Over 80,000 lbs. Maryland Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required: Over 13′ - 14′ wide (except mfg. homes) requires 1 pilot car Over 14′ wide (including mfg. homes) requires 2 pilot cars Over 85′ - 140′ long requires 1 pilot car Over 140′ long requires 2 pilot cars 14′ 6″ high or greater requires 1 pilot car with height pole Over 60 tons GVW requires 1 pilot car If road is too narrow to pass safely, or if traffic will have to be diverted / stopped or weather / road conditions justify, 2 pilot cars are required Police Escort required When: 16′ 0″ wide or greater Over 60 tons GVW When traffic has to be diverted or stopped or if it will affect two or more lanes of traffic on a highway having only one lane in each direction Maryland Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments: No vehicle stipulations in regulations "OVERSIZE LOAD" / "WIDE LOAD" sign (12″ X 5′) with black lettering (8″ high) on yellow background Amber or yellow oscillating or rotating roof light (at least 3″ in diameter), visible to front and rear, flashing warning lamps shall be used when vehicle is travelling 20 mph or less than posted speed Flags are not stipulated in regulations CB or two way radio Maryland Pilot Car Operator Requirements: No stipulations found in regulations |
