Overweight/Overdimensional Section

Oversize Load Permit Is Required:
Width: Over 8' 6"
Height: Over 13' 6"
Length: Semi-trailer over 53' 0"
Weight: Over 80,000 lbs. GVW (20,000 lbs. single axle or 34,000 lbs. tandem axle)

Oversize Load Times Of Movement:
1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. Weekend travel allowed except for superloads
No holiday restrictions unless it's a superload or house movement
Travel allowed 24/7 unless otherwise specified on permit
Curfew from 7am - 9am and 4pm - 6pm (M - F) for the following Counties:
Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Fayette & Jefferson (applies to Owensboro, Ky 431 bridge as well)
For curfew purposes, on I-65, the 123 mile marker is the end of Bullett County

Kentucky Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required:
2 lane highways:
10′ 6″ to 12′ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 12′ wide requires 2 pilot cars
75′ to 85′ long requires 1 pilot car
Over 85′ long requires 2 pilot cars
4 or more lanes, Divided highways:
Over 12′ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 75′ to 120′ long requires 1 pilot car
Over 120′ long requires 2 pilot cars
10′ or greater overhang requires 1 pilot car
Traveling at speeds below the average driving speed of traffic requires 1 pilot car

Kentucky Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments:
Posted appropriate signs/placards on vehicle (both sides)
Amber strobe or flashing lights mounted on top of vehicle
No flags stipulated in regulations
CB or two way radio
