Indiana Oversize Load / Pilot Car Requirements
General Provisions of an Oversize/Overweight Vehicle Permit

Oversize Load Permit Is Required:
Width: Over 8' 6"
Height: Over 13' 6"
Length: Semi-trailer over 53' 0"
Weight: Over 80,000 lbs. GVW (20,000 lbs. single axle or 34,000 lbs. tandem axle)

Oversize Load Times Of Movement:
Over 90′ long, 10′ wide, 13′ 6″ high or under 200,000 lbs. GVW:
1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset (Monday - Friday)
1/2 hour before sunrise until noon on Saturday
14′ 4″ - 16′ wide 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset
Over 16′ wide, 15′ high or 200,000 lbs. GVW:
8:30am - 3:30pm (Monday - Friday)
Travel prohibited on New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day (vehicles may not operate on state highways from 12:00 noon the last weekday preceding and continuing until 1/2 hr before sunrise on the day following the holiday)

Coast 2 Coast Online Permits
Indiana Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required:
12′ 4″ wide, 110′ in length or 14′ 6″ high requires 1 pilot car
Over 14′ 6″ high requires 1 pilot car with a height pole
Between 14′ 4″ and 17′ wide requires 1 pilot car on a dual lane divided highway and 2 pilot cars on all other roads
Superloads require State Police Escorts

Indiana Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments:
Vehicle must have a minimum of 4 wheels with a max GVW of 11,000 lbs.
Must have a flashing amber light mounted on top and an oversize load sign, which is visible to approaching traffic
Must have radio communication with permitted vehicle and/or load

Indiana Pilot Car Operator Requirements:
Escorts must register their insurance with Indiana being the State certificate holder
Maintain a distance of less than 500 feet from permitted vehicle and/or load
