Oversize Load Permit Is Required:
Width: Over 8' 6"
Height: Over 13' 6"
Length: Semi-trailer over 53' 0"
Weight: Over 80,000 lbs. GVW (20,000 lbs. single axle or 34,000 lbs. tandem axle)

Oversize Load Times Of Movement:
Permitted vehicles may move Monday through Friday, from sunrise to sunset, unless otherwise authorized or prohibited by the permit.
Prohibited holidays include New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

Delaware Pilot Car / Escort Vehicle is Required:
Over 12′ wide requires 1 pilot car
Over 14′ wide requires 2 pilot cars
Over 15′ wide requires 2 pilot cars & State Police Escort
Over 15′ high requires 2 pilot cars
Over 17′ 6″ high requires 2 pilot cars & State Police Escort
Over 85′ long requires 1 pilot cars
Over 100′ long requires 2 pilot cars
Over 120,000lbs. requires 2 pilot cars
Over 120′ long requires 2 pilot cars & State Police Escort
Loads in excess of 120′ long require 24 hr advance State Police Notification

Delaware Pilot Car Vehicle Requirments:
Vehicle no smaller than a compact car
Sign on roof with "OVERSIZE LOAD" on both sides (front & back). Minimum 5′ X 12", black letters 8" high on yellow background
Lights not required but may be located on roof & be 43" - 52" long, 10" - 13" wide and 4" - 8" high consisting of flashing or strobe lights (minimum of 4 lights - 2 at each end)
Flags are not required
CB or two way radio

Delaware Pilot Car Operator Requirements:
Escort Vehicles shall have visual contact with the permitted vehicle and have two-way radio communication with the driver of the permitted vehicle.
